How to Spot Fake or Harmful Apps
Copycat apps try to look like popular ones to grab downloads, show excessive ads or collect data. These warning signs help you avoid them.
Warning signs on the store page
- Developer name doesn't match the brand. Official apps come from the company itself.
- Spelling mistakes and odd grammar in the title or description.
- Too-good-to-be-true promises, such as free premium currency, unlimited coins or "unlock everything".
- Very few downloads for something claiming to be a famous app.
- Screenshots that don't match the app name, or that are clearly borrowed from another app.
Warning signs after installing
- Full-screen ads that appear outside the app or on your home screen
- The app hides its icon after install
- Requests for accessibility or device-admin access without a clear reason
- Sudden battery drain or data usage
Be careful with "free currency" generators
Websites and apps that promise free Robux, V-Bucks, gems or diamonds are almost always scams. They're after your account password or your personal details. Only get in-game currency through the game itself.
What to do if you installed something suspicious
- Uninstall it from Settings → Apps.
- Run a scan in Play Store → Play Protect.
- If it had accessibility or admin rights, revoke them first under Settings → Security.
- Change passwords for any accounts you entered in the app.
- Report it on its Play Store page using Flag as inappropriate.
